I have had about 16 student teachers in my career as an educator. Since I have retired, I still work for a small college in the Midwest. My job there is to supervise student teachers in the field and help evaluate them. This is their last stop before setting out on their own into the real world of teaching others.
You can’t choose an instrument that you always wanted to learn or that you may already know how to play. Also, please don’t choose an instrument for your child because you like it. Even though kids don’t always no yet what they like and don’t like, you should let them choose. This will give them a chance to make a commitment and take responsibility for their decision. You will have to stress to them they will be practicing on that instrument every day so they understand their new responsibility.
Make learning interesting for your students, so that they are not intimidated by the thought of learning English. Talk about local topics, and ask them to contribute to the conversation.
The Auxiliary developed public education programs based upon a core teachers resources that as grown to the current BS&S series and a spin off S&S. It was this PE program that generated income for Flotillas and the major source of new members. It became the money line. So as “Deep Throat” said follow the money line.
Once a student teacher has started a lesson, it is important that they do three things. First, they have to make sure that each student knows where the teacher is trying to lead them in reaching a goal or objective. Second, the teacher must be very observant in what is happening in the classroom. They must view all the students, not just the ones that they are dealing with. In other words, they must be in total control of the learning process for each student.
One method of teaching critical thinking is sometimes not to say anything when the response is obvious. Here the teacher could say, “the students who raised their hand that this was a religious holiday would be wrong.”, but those students already know they’re wrong, and their being wrong isn’t an important point. By staying quite about it you’ve reinforced it more – it’s like “walks softly but carry a big stick” – because all of the students are waiting for you to say something to these kids. In other words, the point is stronger made by keeping it unspoken because you have forced the students to unconsciously think about the issues.
An example home study guitar course would be Learn and Master guitar, a 20 dvd program that would probably give a beginner enough content to last them a year. After studying this program you’d be set to progress your guitar education with a private instructor for advanced learning.
